Pilates Week is Pacific NW Pilates (PNWP) signature client and educational event. It’s our annual 10-day “week” of celebration—incorporating International Pilates Day on May 2, 2015— when we invite the metro Portland community to discover Pilates and PNWP’s distinctive, personalized approach.  So read on and act fast to reserve YOUR spot.

Free PNWP Group Classes (April 27-30) for Pilates Pals
If you’ve had a bit of Pilates experience, you may register for one of 11 themed group classes. You’ll also get a take-away with two at-home exercises.

Free PNWP Postural Analysis (April 27-30) for New to Pilates Portlanders
Postural Analysis is the gateway to PNWP’s personalized Pilates experience. During Pilates Week, we will offer more than 20 free analyses. Guests will receive a multi-point assessment; we’ll email valuable app results. For NEW to PNWP only. If you like it, the first session of your intro package will speed you right into exercises.

Professional PNWPE Pilates Workshops (April 24-26 and May 1-3)
Pacific NW Pilates Education will host 15 professional workshops led by STOTT PILATES celebrity Master Instructors John Garey and Kim Kraushar.

Monday’s classes target stability and strength using props and Pilates equipment. You will also get two bonus exercises to use when working out at home.

11 a.m.-noon Pilates Posture and Stabilization
Create greater stability during movement and restore more ideal body alignment. A stability ball helps to reveal—and then correct the way you move via Pilates exercises. You will react to every day challenges with more certainty. The class will combine Matwork and Pilates Reformer exercises to create a full workout.
Beginner to Intermediate

4:30-5:30 p.m. Pilates Tone
Incorporating toning balls into a Pilates Reformer workout opens the door to using Reformer-based exercises at home. This class will focus on strengthening core stability while toning muscles in the arms, leg, waist and back to get a full body workout.

1:15-2:15 p.m. Pilates & MELT for Gardeners
Gardening can be very stressful on your back and hands. Using patented MELT Method balls (as seen on ABC News with JuJu Chang), we will do a full hand treatment and then, with the MELT soft roller, work on specific areas of the lower back, shoulders and neck. We will also review the proper techniques for squatting, kneeling and lifting. You’ll be ready for your summer garden.

Blend two popular disciplines. Sue Brantley, with more than 17 years of teaching has developed a class that incorporates Pilates into her yoga practice. The result is yoga that is approachable, safe and aligned with Pilates-loving principles.

5:30-6:30 p.m. Circuit Pilates
Add a cardio and endurance element to the precision, balance and control of your personal Pilates practice. Pilates-based exercises on Reformer, Chair, Springboard, Stability ball and BOSU choreographed to music will energize and challenge. This class is taught by a Pilates instructor and professional dancer.

Thursday Pilates Week classes offer balletic Pilates moves and sports power and balance development. Each class provides a two-exercise takeaway to continue class work at home.

The class will integrate elements of Pilates, dance, cardio and strength training. A high energy and dynamic class—taught by a Pilates Instructor Trainer and professional dancer—will introduce a few basics of ballet barre. You’ll work hard and finish smiling.

5:15-6:15 p.m. Pilates for the Outdoor Enthusiast
If you hike, run, bike, backpack, climb or walk, Pilates exercises on the Reformer can be a great addition to your training and sports performance. Pilates can help with core stability, shoulder stability, improve muscle balance and weakness, and add flexibility. Pilates mind-body emphasis can also help relieve stress.
