Free “Pilates For Dancers” Workshop

by pnwp on April 9, 2013

Leslie Dance

Are you a dancer who has been sidelined and frustrated by injuries? Do you wonder what your next career will be when dance is no longer a physically viable livelihood?

Leslie Braverman, our own Co-Founder and Co-Owner,  and Lead Instructor Trainer, STOTT PILATES, is the lovely ballerina in the photo. She was led to pilates because of an injury and credits it with prolonging her career.

Teaching pilates was a natural transition for Leslie because it used skills she already had:

  • a keen body awareness and understanding about physical fitness and movement
  • the ability to explain movement and teach it to another person
  • the strength and stamina to have a physical job

Leslie and Holly Shaw (current BODYVOX dancer and Pacific NW Pilates instructor) will lead a FREE workshop:
“Pilates: Stabilize Your Dancing and Your Future”
Monday, April 29, 2013
BODYVOX Dance Center
1201 NW 17th Ave.
Portland, OR 97209
6:00pm-7:30pm – lecture & demonstration
7:30pm-9:00pm – cocktails & nibbles
Cost: FREE

Anyone with a background in dance, professional dancers and dance students are welcome.

The evening presentation will include:

  • Introduction of Pacific NW Pilates
  • STOTT PILATES, the contemporary approach to the original method founded by former dancer, Moira Merrithew
  • Why Pilates is good for you today and tomorrow
  • STOTT PILATES, the cross-training benefits for dancers
  • A half-hour mat class to demonstrate how pilates can help to strengthen opposing muscles, balance asymmetrical patterns, aid in injury prevention and recovery.
  • What injuries are specific to dancers?
  • What it’s like to be both a teacher and a dancer
  • Post-presentation social with cocktails & nibbles

Please RSVP to Tracy O’Hagan via email or by calling the studio at  503.292.4409

2nd Annual Pilates for Pink in the Park!

by pnwp on August 14, 2012

Sunday, September 30th

We are so proud to announce the 2nd Annual Pilates for Pink in the Park! This was amazing last year and we couldn’t have done it without you! Watch our video.
View our 2nd Annual poster here!

Pilates for Pink

This annual national breast cancer awareness initiative started seven years ago by SHAPE Magazine and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Pilates studios across the country host special classes in October where 100% of the proceeds are donated to breast cancer research and to date, over $800,000 has been raised.

Pacific Northwest Pilates has been a proud participant of this campaign since the beginning and now for our 2nd year,  we want to host a whole morning in Washington Park with classes, crafts, massage and more – all to support this great cause!

Register NOW!

Call the studio at 503.292.4409 or click here to register online.

The Event:

  • Sunday, September 30th, starting at 9am in Washington Park in the Stevens Pavilion at the Arboretum.
  • Event will include 2 Pilates group classes hosted by PNWP owners, Melanie & Leslie: standing Pilates classes using both the resistance bands and weighted balls
  • $25 registration will include a “Pilates Angels for Pink” t-shirt – all proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
  • Refreshments served, free massage, crafts & vendor tables

“Link For Pink” Tribute!

Do you want to honor someone who’s had breast cancer? Donate to our “Link For Pink” and 100% of this will go to the BCRF – where $.91 of every dollar goes to breast cancer research!

This year’s special honoree is Martha Lundberg,  a very special PNWP client – read her story here.

Special Jewelry Piece Created!

Our very good friend at AmberPDX is an amazing local jewelry designer and crafted these gorgeous earrings just for Pilates For Pink!

They measure about 2.25″ in length and are Sterling French earwire with hand-forged silver-fill wire formed into a “ribbon” and wrapped with 14k gold-fill rose wire. Super lightweight and versatile. $32 cost and $5 donated per pair to Breast Cancer Research Foundation!

You click here to order online, or stop by the studio to see them on display and even purchase. Additionally, you can also call to place your order, 503.292.4409.

KOMEN Expo – We’ll be there!

Are you going to Race for the Cure? Well if you are, then come see Pacific NW Pilates at the Komen Health Expo & Packet Pick-up at the Convention Center on Saturday, September 15th! Starting at 11:50am, we will be conducting free breast cancer pilates classes on the Fitness stage. Let’s band together! And tune in this Friday at 5pm to KATU to catch us demonstrating our band class!

Wear2 Clothing has created wonderful pieces from their clothing line – see their special “Pilates For Pink” items and read more about them here.

We could not have done any of this without our wonderful sponsors!
