We have some wonderful instructors here at PNWP and we’d love you to get to know them better. This season, we have Jean Leavenworth who was one of the original founders of Pacific NW Pilates.
Jean now teaches clients at the studio and works as an Instructor Trainer for STOTT PILATES certification courses and workshops. She was first introduced to pilates in 1992, while in New York, and fell in love with the way it made her body feel.
5 Things About Jean:
Person most interested in meeting: Isadora Duncan; She set me on my journey
Greatest passions: dance, music and nature
Favorite quote: “What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.”

We have some wonderful instructors here at PNWP and we’d love you to get to know them better. This season, we have Cheryl Ramette who has been with PNWP since 2004.
After a lifetime of movement, Cheryl found herself having a mid-life body crisis in 2000, and then found Pilates. A few years later she became a certified instructor through PNWP, and continues to be thrilled with the positive changes Pilates brings to bodies and to lives.
5 Things About Cheryl:
Favorite quote: “Your way begins on the other side. Become the sky. Walk out like someone suddenly born into color. Do it now.” Rumi
Most influential book: “Initiation”, by Elizabeth Haich which I read in 1982 as a young adult. It put my life firmly yet gently in my own hands.
Most treasured possession(s): Tiny ceramic bowl, heart shaped box filled with love quotes; touchstone treasures made or given by my children and friends
Favorite restaurant: Lucca on 24th and Fremont. Delicious, lovely, sophisticated and yet family friendly.
Favorite way to spend free time: Doing what I do when I have no plans…long city walks, lunch with friends, making art, messing around in my life.
A great big THANKS to everyone who supported our fund-raising efforts for Breast Cancer Awareness. Clients and friends banded together to raise over $2k in proceeds donated to the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Currently, over 88 cents of every dollar donated to the BCRF goes to research and awareness programs. Enjoy the video!!
Do you know someone who’s had breast cancer and you’d like to honor? Get them a link on our “Link For Pink” tribute chain! Each name will be placed on paper links and added to our growing chain in the studio – we’ll take it with us on Sunday, Oct 2nd for “Pilates for Pink in the Park”! Call Shannon at the studio to donate now: info@pacificnwpilates.com, 503-292-4409.
Eve Stern (pictured here with son Alex) is a breast cancer survivor and PNWP client since 2004. In Eve’s words: I started Pilates after a friend suggested I might like it since I generally disliked all forms of exercise. When I received my diagnosis of Breast Cancer, I surprised myself by continuing to attend even though I had the perfect excuse to quit. I would drag my poor radiated and chemo’d body out of bed, don my headscarf and drive to the studio for an hour of healthy input.
I received a great amount of support from Pacific NW Pilates. Whenever I arrived for my sessions, I was greeted with warm smiles of tenderness and encouragement that kept me going on even the toughest days. My personal instructors, Sue and Janet, quietly cheered me on and strengthened both my body and my soul.
For that hour, twice a week, I felt normal and strong and in control of what was happening to me. I will always be eternally grateful for what the medical community did to heal my body. I am equally appreciative of what my Pilates experience did to strengthen my, both physically and mentally.”
If you’d like to also pay tribute to someone on this page, send us a photo and their info and we’d love to share with our community!
